Hi!
I am Vancesca. My recipe to shoot the above images is to find interesting
angles to shoot familiar objects. Before I shoot, I try to view the
target object or scene at a few different angles to discover the one most interesting angle. Often times, I angled the camera slightly to the side, either left or
right, or hold the camera closed to the floor. I used the iPhone app to shoot
the black and white photos. For some photos, I used the darkroom app; however,
I did not find that the app enhanced the photos in any way. Thanks for viewing!

Photo number 1 is interesting since it fits to the topic of this week. It is really mysterious that I have no way of knowing where she took the photo. Photo number 3 is interesting too. It makes me really curious what this is and what the background is. Also photo number 11 makes me wonder what she took the photo of. The shading of the photo looks really interesting that it looks really mysterious. I would vote for photo number 3 as the best photo since it makes me really curious what this is.
ReplyDeleteHi Vancesca,
ReplyDeleteI think you did a good job of finding new angles of how to look at objects. It's an interesting way of finding a new photo of something we would already know what it looks like. Your photos show a lot of diversity with angles as well as lighting. I think you did really well with shadows with conveying what you wanted seen in your photos. One that specifically stood out to me was number 16. It's interesting with no major focus on the photo and the shadow makes the photo sinister with jagged edges and lighting that isn't focused. It reminds me of a still from an old horror film. My vote for your best photo though is number 11. For me, this photo stands out among all the photos shown because it's very different with the use of black and white. The entire photo is almost all black with the exception of the flecks of silver/white. It's not clear at all what this photo is or how you were able to find this kind of image and I like that mystery. I find it to be extremely engaging to a viewer because it's not clear and allows for a lot of discussion for what's going on.
I really enjoyed looking at all of your photos! I liked number 3 a lot. With all of the talk about climate change, it reminded me of the north pole with all of the melting ice. I also like how photo 12 leads the eye into photo 11. I thought that they were the same picture at first! I like that there is a stark contrast between the long bright lines and the dark tunnel with pops of light. I vote photo 18 as the best though. I think it does a great job showing the mix between history and modernization. People from hundreds of years ago walked those same streets that some kid just took a can of spray paint to and vandalized. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI like how you were taking photo from the side view. I think it helps to create mysterious mood such as 1,2,14,and 18. Even though its a object, since you are taking photos from the side view it brings dramatic effect. And there are great contrasts in your pictures as well.
ReplyDeleteI am still wondering what is going on in photo 11. photo 10 seems like it fits perfectly for our theme which was mystery. and the shadows look nicely between the leaves.
I would like to vote for 1.
DeleteI can see you really like take photo from the side view. Side view photos are always have good line composition and framing. I think Pic 1, 2 and 14 are the representative work. Especially the grape on Pic 14, its feel so funny but also weird. My favorite one is 21. The selfie has good composition, half face shot always give people space of image. I can see you are thinking when you shoot the image from your eye contact. So I really want vote this one.
ReplyDeleteI really like photo #1 and photo #18. If you take a look at my photos, I am a big fan of urban photography. In #1, it looks like your in some narrow alley and it makes me feel tense. You can't tell what is at the end of the alley, which makes me fearful as a viewer. The angle of the photo shows that it was taken by the fence rather than the brick wall. The proximity of the fence tells me that you feel safer next to an area of escape, which helps create a dialogue between us. This tension is familiar to me because I have lived in the city for so long; you never know what to expect and you should always be ready to jump to safety. I think you captured the experience of urban life very well. Photo #18 had a similar impact on me, but it was not as strong. I pick #1 as your POW. Overall, you have a great tonal range and interesting extrapolated views. Good work, Vancesca!
ReplyDeleteI like your use of straight and curvy lines in a lot of your photos. Photo 4 is my favorite because of the shadows. I love the composition and how it interprets the light going through the chair. The way the camera is peeking through one of the holes in the wicker frame creates a nice frame in the photo. It reminds of of speckled light falling through tree branches in the summertime. I also like the use of line in photo 2 of the wicker chair. There is an interesting juxtaposition of curvy and straight lines. It is also nice how the lines fade to the background.
