Recipe #14
The app I used to take this photo is Camera+. I've used this app for all my photos because I like the options it gives for each filter and has a nice framing outline. For this particular photo I used the framing outline to make the rings as even as possible on each side. I also wanted a stark contrast of the lighter shades and darker so I added two filters that deepened the contrast. Once I was satisfied with the filters of the black and white photo I added a sepia filter to the photo. I decreased the filter to about 18% so it wasn't overwhelming and had a subtle warm tone to it. I used this same process for most of my photos until I deemed them good enough for posting.
I like photo number 13. It looks like a hole on a clothes. It makes me think of how she decided to take that photo. Perhaps, she was looking for something to take a photo of and she found that on her clothes. That detail, I think, takes a lot of work. Also, there are two knots going through the hole. This makes me wonder what kind of clothes that is. Maybe this is not a clothes. I would certainly vote for photo number 13 since it makes me think a lot.
ReplyDeleteI think there is a very strong design aspect in a lot of your photos. Photos 5, 7, 10, and 14 have very sound elements of graphic design. I also noticed that a lot of your work is very balanced, there is a strong sense of symmetry and focal point.
ReplyDeletePhoto 1 is my favorite because of the lighting and mystery. I love how the shadows criss-cross on the ground. The light values are also really interesting; the speckled light on the ceiling of the structure reminds me of a tropical ocean floor on a sunny day. I think both the lighting and shadows on the ceiling and floor draw the eye to the background, creating a strong sense of mystery. The photo is also split into four subtle triangles, adding to the balance of the print.
The most of your objects in the pictures are recognizable. However, I think the way you were taking pictures was really great! it seems like you wanted to focus on certain point which makes them look different such as 14 and 10. I was able to tell 14 is yoga mat, but I looked at the hole in the center which you focused on in this picture. And the contrast in photo 14 is really good.
ReplyDeleteI would like to vote for last picture.
DeleteI really like your photos with detail. But they are just detail I think, its hard to figure out what's behind the detail. My favorite one is the Pic 1. The first detail attract me is the light on the roof. The rest of light looks like stars on the roof. On the other hand, the composition and framing are good with that pic. So I vote this one.
ReplyDeleteI love the techniques and strategies you employ in your photography. I will definitely be downloading the camera+ app to try and mimic some of your framing compositions and tonal ranges, they're perfect! My favorite photo is #14. The shallow depth of field is great in this picture. The emphasis is around the edges of the frame, where a continuous geometric spiral catches your eye. It looks to me like a yoga mat? The position of this physical element draws my eyes to the center, which appears to be a moon. The physical form of this photo supports the content, which reveals a deeper meaning that sometimes a different perspective can expose us to earth's finest beauties. Sometimes we have to take a step back and look at the bigger picture, or we may take a step closer. This photo shows me that you view the world from all angles. I pick this photo as your POW.
ReplyDeleteI do have to comment on photo number 11 though, because we seem to think in similar ways (artistically speaking). I have almost the same photo except I am sitting down. I love the idea. The important qualities of the picture are lined up at the edges, and you as the subject are gazing in wonder at the vast array of books. It is communicating that you are open to new things, a trend that I see throughout many of your photos.
I really enjoy the way you used exposure in toning your photos. I like how in some of them the exposure is so bright that the details of the image pop off the screen. My favorite photo and choice for POW would be #3. In looking through your photos, I found myself coming back to this photo again and again. The image captures the mystery aspect of this assignment perfectly.
ReplyDeleteHi. I went back and forth between the first and ninth photo. The first because I think you highlighted the mystery component of the assignment wheel. I see the usage of lights and shadows, and that makes the photo come alive. However, the reason why I flipped flopped between the first and ninth photo is because I really like the clean look of photo 9. It may not be mysterious but it's definitely a beautiful photo. For the purpose of this assignment, my vote goes to the first photo.
ReplyDeleteI vote the first photo as your best. The symmetry of the arches makes it special. The light also seems to get brighter the further away you move, almost inviting you to explore it. It compliments the mystery component well.
