I added a warm tint to photos 2 and 4 with the Hue/Saturation feature in Adobe Photoshop. The rest of the photos were edited directly in the iPhone camera app. I used the Noir filter on most of the pictures to accentuate contrast between the highlights and shadows.

  1. I really like photo number 1. It makes me wonder what kind of mirror she used for photo shooting. I can see four faces. Normally, if one takes a photo using two mirrors, two faces should appear on the photograph; however, I can see four. This is interesting. I also like photo number 10. It makes me wonder how she went to the spot she took the photo. It is difficult for someone to get to a spot like that since it is supposed to be prohibited. Maybe she had to get her pants wet to take the photo. I also like the sequences of pillars in the center of the photo. I would vote for photo number 10 since it contains so much in it.

  2. I think you did really good job on getting the focal point. I really liked your photo 10, 12, and 14. These pictures look quite different even though I know what these objects are. I believe that it is because of the focal points. I can see you tried to focus on one objects instead of showing every details. Since you focused on one object, everything pushed backward which makes me see the objects in the front. And the objects are blurry in the back, I tried to see what is in there too.
I also enjoyed to see photo 8 which I think such a great photo for our theme mystery. It looks really mysterious to me. Also, the shadow helps to create mysterious mood.

  3. I really liked photo 3- It looks very busy at first glance, but when reviewing everything it is a plain bar with a couple of glasses and an order of food. I also think that photo 5 is a great picture. It is such a basic photo and you got the shadows captured very well from the window on the wall. It makes me wonder what kind of things happened in that house- did kids play there? Did a family just move out- or in? Overall my vote for your best photo is number 10. I think it is a great shot overall- I love the symmetry and how it looks to go on forever. The contrast is very nice between the white pillars and the dark water. I also love the beach, and this reminds me of it!

  4. Hey Becca,
Your photos show how you can work with a good depth of field. Many of your photos are layered in that the focus point is in one place but there are many blurred layers around it. I like 14 because the thing you chose to focus on wouldn't be the first thing to do so because of the object it is; but I believe that really helps set the photo off. I think you do that with a lot of your photos in that you focus on the the thing that others wouldn't think to look at. There's so much going on in each of your photos that I enjoy the diversity in them to appeal to what I'm seeing. My vote for my favorite of your photos would have to be 9. There are so many things that my eyes want to look at and each of them are wonderfully lit. I also like how most of the aspects in that photo are circular and they overlap one another.

  5. I think you did a really good job on use well of light and shadow. Look the Pic 3,8,9 and 12, light and shadow made the perfect composition. Pic 8 and 9 are my two favorite. The door knob's in Pic 8 is the key of the success on the image. It has 45 degree between the knob and keyhole, prefect position. And it give me feeling that somebody gonna use key to open the door and hold the knob to pull up, and he will figure out what's behind that door. Pic 9 also has very good framing, and I can clear see the reading lamp's reflections in the water. The water is totally clear and it seem to know your heart inside out. So I really want vote the Pic 8.

  6. Wow, your photography is awesome. My favorite photos are #1, #5, and #10, although I really like them all. Your primary strategy in #1 is the utilization of reflections, which is really interesting. As a viewer I can't tell the 'true' reflection apart from the reflections of the reflection. I think it is so cool how your face is looking in all different directions, I can't even fathom how you accomplished that in this photo. The construction is split by a vertical horizon, which is sending me a message of difference. I am interpreting it as your alter egos, but somewhere in that picture is the real you making sense of the different versions of yourself.

I think the reflection of light and intensity of shadows in number 5 creates the perfect composition. The hallway is mysterious. You cannot see where it ends, or where the windows are, but you know that they are there. You did really well with providing hints to create the mystery rather than facts. The angle of view is also unique, as if you're peering from around a door. I used to do this as a kid when I would wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom because I was scared of the dark. I had to make sure the coast was clear!

As far as #10 goes, I really like the form but it is difficult for me to interpret its content. I personally cannot connect to it, although the depth of field is intriguing. To me the elements presented here are all physical, although I'm sure you had a motivation for capturing this photo.

I'm going to have to choose #1 as your POW.

  7. Hi. I am going to go with photo 14. The focus, obviously, is on the white napkin(?); however, the view of the rest of the restaurant is cast towards the back of the photo giving it context. What makes the photo interesting is the background -- It made me question what are the kinds of the things present and what types of people go to this restaurant, and by this, you captured the mystery component of the project.

  8. I would vote for photo 5. I like the use of light coming from the window and how it only partially illuminates the room. It's also as if it was taken from the shadows. A lot of mystery there.
