Recipe:
I used a default camera app to take photos excluding photo 8. I used a Camera Zoom app for photo 8.
I used Windows Photo Editor for 1 through 13. For photo 14, I used an Aviary Android application and applied Beat effect then added the 4th filter with Windows Photo Editor. For photo 1 through 5, I used a sepia pro effect an Aviary Android application.
Photo 1: Due to light, a person seems like fading out.
Photo 2 - 5: I captured mysteriously reflected objects.
Photo 8: A shadow looks mysterious.
Photo 11: I focused on water drops on window. It blurred background.
Photo 13 and 14: These self-portrait photos represent my different characteristics with interesting backgrounds (shadow, pattern).

Hey Hong,
ReplyDeleteI liked how most of your photos didn't have an object that it focused on. All of your photos seem to take up the entire picture rather than making the eye focus on a specific part. Placing photos 6 and 7 next to each other really helped play off one another considering they look so similar but are obviously not the same thing. They have a similar filter to them and not everything is entirely in focus which helps in keeping a questionable context to them. Both reminded me of driving around at home during winter where nothing is exactly certain about the nature happening around you. One photo I especially liked is number 9. You lit the photo very well to the point where I can't tell if it's water, ice, snow, or whatever. This is a photo that if you stare at it long enough you find new details about it. I think you managed to do that with many of your photos and it worked well in your advantage.
I would vote for number 9 as your best.
DeleteI really like photo 10 because the pattern is very pretty and it is all that is focused on. I also like that the light is contrasted from the top of the picture to the bottom. I also like photo 7. It reminds me of when something bad would happen when I was little, my parents would tell me that there was always a silver lining. I think that it is a great shot and tough to get, especially with the sun (it always makes it difficult)! Overall I like photo number 1 the most. It gives a sense of mystery and feels eerie- almost like someone leaving the earth. You did a very good job balancing the light to not take up too much of your photos, but not letting it be too dark. I think you did a very good job.
ReplyDeleteI think all of your pictures are really great. It was interesting to see how you captured each moment such as 9. I am still not sure if the photo 9 is a drawing or a picture of capturing a moment. I also liked to see a great reflection on photo 3 with the contrast. I think the focal point in photo 11 is really good. The textures look great and the contrast helps to create better textures. I also enjoyed to see the textures with close up objects such as 11.
ReplyDeleteI want to vote for 11
DeleteI go through these pictures and I know these pics with full excellent composition and framing. I really enjoy it at all. Pic 1,3,6,9,10 are my prefer works. whether in light or content of these pictures, I think those are match the theme of "Mystery". My favorite one is Pic 9. Its looks so beautiful at all, even I can't figure what that really is. Its looks like a high speed camera record a process of water ball blow up and that's the instant. Really fantastic. I vote the 9.
ReplyDeleteYou are a great photographer and seem to really know how to utilize light in composing your photographs. You work really well with shadows and reflective subjects, which I applaud because I have had some trouble with this skill in black and white. My favorite pictures are #3, #9, and #13. In the third picture, you can't tell exactly what the horizon is. The realistic version of your fingers and their reflection surround the horizon, which places emphasis on it. It almost seems like you are about to turn a page in a book. I feel a sense of hesitation in the image and it really makes me wonder if you're about to do something risky. It's like, two fingers on two fingers off, and you're still in that period of contemplation. This photo exercises the economy of means, making it especially intense. The construction supports the conception very well here. The physical arrangement of your fingers and the unique composition of the photo is actively communicating some type of inner-conflict.
ReplyDeleteAnother photo I must comment on is #9. It is so intriguing and mysterious. To me it appears like water that is spilling out of an object of some sort, but I really can't tell. I actually stared at the photo for almost five minutes. It looks like you captured an accident and are zooming in on it. The perspective is great and so is the depth of field.
#13 is also my favorite self-portrait, and I really like the dark shadow behind your head. You look sad, and the black shadow behind you seems to serve as a type of weight on your shoulders; like there's something that has been bothering you.
I love all your photographs, but I choose #3 as your POW because it had the greatest impact on me.
I love photos 7 and 10. They both display a large scale quality. It is difficult to measure how large the area photo 10 was taken in. Photo 10 is my favorite because it looks like it is in motion. There is a nice sense of chaos. The photo reminds me of the restlessness of an ocean and the deep mystery and darkness of the ocean at nighttime. I also love how the photo contains dark edges around the top and bottom, framing everything nicely.
ReplyDeleteHi. You are sure the expert in using light and shadows as means to give life to your photos! Instead of focusing on one object, you do not have a focus and although this can be boring, you use light and shadows to make create interesting and mysterious feels to your photos. Photos 6, 7, and 8 give off ominous vibes. What a way to be mysterious! Love your use of shadow in the self portrait for photo 13. Photo 3 and 4 are beautiful. My vote goes to photo 9. I am still at awed in deciphering what that is. Sure, it's a splash but in what context?
ReplyDeleteI think photo number 1 is your best photo. I like how the light sort of drowns out part of the silhouette but there is still obviously a figure in the door way. It adds a lot of mystery to the photo.
