Recipe for #4
For this photo I actually had to lay on the ground to get it. Originally I was just laying on the ground but then looked up and noticed how interesting the pipes were along with the background. So I got out my phone and framed the photo so things were even. I liked how the light stuck out on the left side of the picture and I think it worked well with the yellow background. There's no light on the right side, adding to the navy background and making them seem like opposing sides. I continued using the Camera+ app and went through and added the "Fashion" filter to the photo. I decreased it just enough so that the colors contrasted off of one another.
Photo 1 looks great! I don't know if you meant to make it look like this, but it reminds me of a crucifix with barbed wires that was meant for someone to be up on but they got away, and they just left it in case the perpetrator returned. Photo 12 made me feel nostalgic because I always had friends who would go down to the arcade and play pac man and other games that were on the huge consoles in arcades, and it reminded me of those fun times. Picture 13 looks very vintage as well with the dry, aged-wood sink and the picture frames that are cracking from time. I also like the look of the walls- you can tell they have been painted over a few times, and it gives the room a warmer and weathered look as well. Overall I vote for photo 20 as the POW. I like the look of the warm, old colors on the train station floor. It feels like you are traveling back in time to when the tiled were laid down and the train is showing your passage through time. Nice work overall!
ReplyDeleteMorgan, I was able to feel minimalism for many of your photos such as 4, 6, 9, 12, 17, and 18. I like those simple but strong photos. For example, photo 4 seems like simple but color composition is not just simple. Red and yellow colors stand out while white and black backgrounds are contrary colors. Very smart composition! Photo 11 displays not only contrary colors but also different textures - I guess marbles and tiles. For photo 8, I am wondering the behind story of that man sitting on the seat. Since there is only one person, audiences can equally focus on the background and the person. For photo 18, red, yellow, and green color compose the building, and the grayish sky adds another color to this photo. Additionally, the low angle makes this photo extraordinary. Photo 19 showcases both warm pink and cool blue altogether. Also, you placed sky as 2/3 of photo. Very interesting composition. I have to say that it was really hard to pick your POW among these beautiful works. I would like to vote photo 4 as your POW.
ReplyDeleteI think your photos are simple but somehow it is really strong. for example, 1,2,4, and 6, these are simple shots compare to others. However, the composition makes them really strong photos. Also, the colors help to create vintage feeling. I also think photo 12 is strong as well. It has a nice contrast to capture people's eye.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite picture is the last one. I like how you captured the movement through the picture. I think it has a busy movement at the evening when everyone is trying to go back to their home. Also it looks warm. I want to vote for 20.
I love the image 1, awesome! I don't know why but it can always let me associate it with Japan, the feeling is very strange. Maybe I often seen such a scene in the TV, or is this represents some kind of Japanese art. Feel so weird. But I like that. Image 6 looks so simple but it tells us the story more than it show us. No. 8 is the other one my favorite. Old-fashioned subway with dark tonal, feeling is 30 years ago. Even there is a feeling of crossing. I have a little confuse about the No. 17, I can't figure out what is that but I like the color contrast and the Angle. I think the No. 20 is the other one fantastic work in "Subway" series. It has similar feeling to me when I compare it to No. 8, but I think No.8 is better because it tell me more than this one. So I vote the No.8 as POW.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you extrapolated subjects that were literally from our past, such as the old packman game controls, and the candy machine quarter slots. You also have a great angle of view in photos 18 and 1. I like your framing strategies in 2, 5, and 16, as well as your use of space in photos 4, 10, and 10. However, i really appreciate the minimalism in photo 17. There is mystery to the photo, and the use of black and white really attracts me. I'm wondering what you are trying to resonate here? I vote 17 for your POW.
ReplyDeleteI really like the effect you used in photo 19. The film looks like it was processed in a lab because of the subtle areas of transparent warm colors. How did you do this? Did you use a dodge and burn tool? I would like to vote for photo 18 as my favorite because of the symmetry and color. The photo has nice balance and the colors are interesting. The building appears as though it had brighter paint on it at one point, but the color slowly faded with age and wear.
ReplyDeleteI liked how there was almost an industrial theme with all of your shots as many of them had metal features as a focus. I thought you did a great job at exploring different angles for these shots as they all were very unique. My favorite photo of yours and choice for POW is 17. I found myself looking at this photo for awhile just trying to figure out what it is, which makes it perfect for the mystery element of the assignment.
