I tried to play with colors. I tried to accentuate colors in my photos by making edits, adjusting the brightness and darkness of the photos. Instead of making adjustments directly on my phone, I uploaded my photos onto my computer and made the edits that way. I used the feature that came up the photo app on iPhotos.

In the last Critique, I experimented with side angles alot. In this Critique, I incorporated the technique of shooting using the side angle but not as much as the last time. Instead, I tried to incorporate shadows in some photos and experimented with extreme angles -- either from from above or below, which is demonstrated in photos 1, 7, 8,  and 10. I also tried to tell some sort of stories through my photos this time and this is demonstrated in photos 2, 13, 14, and 15. I tried to provide the "receding space" effect in photos 3 and 4, and somewhat 12. Photos 12 and 14 are my attempts at recreate tangible objects. Photos 14 looks like a photo, but it was actually a stationary item. The selfie photos are my attempt to create a mysterious feel by using props and capturing only a portion of my face.

Thanks for viewing, and I would love to know what you think!

  1. I really love all your works because I have seen the best composition and framing. There is no any words can describe rather than perfect. Especially for PIc 1-5, 8, 17. The first one in line feeling. Two road in the night appeared amazingly beautiful face under the irradiation of street light, just like two of the most beautiful lines join together. The dog in Pic 2seems thinking something, words in the notebook seems like mapping out the idea of it. River Banks and bridge enhance one another’s beauty, the rosy clouds at night is a perfect match.Pic 5 is one of the most artistic, although I can't find out what it really is, the feeling is very beautiful. So for POW I wanna vote the No. 5.

  2. Vancesca, you did an awesome job! I feel like your photos have stories. Your B&W photo were good but you made a great improvement for this color/passion assignment. For photo 2, rather than capturing a dog and the seashore alone, you used a green-inked note together to make the photo interesting. Also, the bluish green or turquoise ink color matches the rest of photo. You are so clever. One-third of photo 4 is pastel green, so you displayed that color as the tertiary color. Then, placed purple sneakers add mystery. I like your first self portrait as well. You added a mysterious touch to the photo. I like all of your photos. Like Kang already said, I would vote photo 5 as your POW. You added a humor by displaying a mask and the mixture of blue, green, and teal colors look beautiful. Again, I vote for photo 5 as your POW.

  3. I love how were playing with an angle on some of your pictures 9, and 13. Since the angles are different than what we usually see in our life. These looks life different objects, and I could not recognize the objects right away. I like you photo 4 the most. I think this angle is the most interesting. I was quite surprised on photo 4, because even though a pair of shoes is in the back, I saw the shoes first instead of the carpet in the front. Also, your last self-portrait is really good picture. I enjoyed to see how you covered your face with hairs. It creates mysterious feeling as well. I would love to vote for photo4.

  5. I like how you took different angles on your photos- you did not focus on high, low, or side angles only. I really liked photos 2 and 3 (although they are of a puppy and sky!) but I think that they have beautiful colors. Photo 2 reminds me of when I would go to the beach with my family and we would take our puppy with us. I think that photo 7 has a nice filter as well (it almost reminds me of a warm winter night), but photo 8 is clearer. Overall, I vote for photo 5 as the photo of the week. I can tell it is some type of mask on a table, but I cannot tell what the rest of the photo is- where it is located, the time of day, etc. I also like that there is a slight reflection in the table. Good job!

  6. Photo 3 and 4 are my two favorite photos from your group. I enjoy photo 3 in that you worked really well in contrasting two different areas. There’s a distinct line as to where the navy begins and the orange ends. Then there’s enough happening in each color area that makes me keep looking for the details. I also enjoy the contrast of the clarity in the orange and navy. The navy looks blurry, with the clouds taking over most of the picture. When looking at the orange the skyline is very clear. Even the ripples in the water look clearer than the clouds in the sky. When looking at photo 4, you can see all the individual colors in the rug at the bottom of the picture. As my eyes move up all those colors blend together but I feel like you colored this photo well in that I can still see them play off one another. The green of the lockers really adds to the color of the rug and makes the entire photo come together. I think the clutter of the rug color and the solid green color of the lockers allows for a stark but attractive contrast in the photo. The entire photo takes on a green hue and it works very well. I would vote photo 4 as POW.

  7. Photos 2 and 3 are my favorite, but overall I think you have the color techniques perfected. You shift the white balance from cool to warm depending on the mood you are trying to evoke. I love number three because of the extreme nature and weather that is captured. There is a surreal reflection of the lights from the bridge on the water that is eye catching. The orange luminance from the building lights and the sunset are also very pleasant as they extend all the way up near the edge of the frame, and then fade into blackness. Even though 2 is kind of a photo cliche, I love how you arranged the subjects of the photo. I don't know whether to look at what you're writing, the dog, or the ocean in the background. There is a great color balance in the photo with just enough coolness to set a relaxing mood. It seems like it is early in the day and you're just out taking your dog for a walk and writing in your journal. I choose number 3 for your photo of the week.

  8. I am really impressed with you pictures capturing color at night. This was something I struggled to capture for this assignment and you did it really well! My favorite picture and choice for your POW is number 2. I like how there is so much happening in the frame. It also really captures your point of view in that exact moment. It makes me wonder what else is happening outside of the frame.

  9. Vanessa, I would agree with Katie about your pictures capturing color at night. 1 and 3 are really successful photos of color at night. I especially like how the sky is so drastically differently colored from the water in photo 3. It is interesting how the line of clouds create a clear border between the colors. I also love the composition and perspective of photo 1. It reminds me of flying dreams. I also really like photo 17 because the color is so vibrant and eye catching. The peacock feather looks like it almost serves as a "third eye".

  10. I would vote for photo 8 as your best. The angle gives it that mystery. You can clearly see a sidewalk and street in the background, but you have to look closely to see the art that is on the wall. The brightness of the wall also contrasts the blandness of the street.
