I like the first photo due to its lighting and shading. Buildings over the shore appear all in black. I really like it. Maybe they all appear in black after the editing. Also, I really like the background of the second photo. I wonder where Gary took the photo. Perhaps he went on a vacation over a weekend and took an opportunity to take a photo for this class. In terms of voting, I would like to vote for the photo with a cat in it. The cat is sleeping, or he was able to take the photo when the cat closed his or her eyes. I cannot identify whether the cat is a girl or a boy just by looking at the photo. I encourage the courage he went through approaching a sleeping cat while trying not to awake the cat.
I think the first picture is really good black and white photo. It shows the buildings and waves in the shadow which are still recognizable. Also, It was interesting to see some of those reflections on the last picture. I was able to tell you took this picture inside of building. And when I saw your karade picture, I was guessing you might work there! I also think you are more into capturing an entire vision instead of taking pictures with a focal point.
I like the third photo posted. The angle is one that we are not usually used to seeing, and it reminds me of a shot from a movie. I also like the second photo. It shows the beauty of nature while pairing the man made structure behind it. Overall, I vote for picture number 4 of the boxers in the gym. I like that it is a very candid moment, and I like that it shows the children and adults both together.
Hi Gary, I really like the detail each of your photos have. There are many things to look at in each photo and I think it allows for each to be looked at for a time period. Your fourth photo is interesting in that it shows a building but there is a glare to it that my eyes are immediately drawn too. I think it works with this photo because it feels like there are two different worlds going on. My vote for your best would be number 1. I think the city scape really works in splitting up the air and the water. The top is so much lighter than the bottom and I like the use of black and white. It reminds me of the first few times I would look at New York City and would always want to take in the shape of the entire city. This photo allows for the city to look like one long geometrical shape.
I really like those photos with B&W, and the composition of those picture are quite unique, from far to close, from the whole city to a little cat and children. The city in first picture like a mystery between sky and lake, fantastic! The fall in second picture give me a solemn and magnificent feeling. The little cat in fourth picture was the best one in the series pictures, vivid and peaceful, when you close up to see, you can have a eye contact with it. Amazing feeling. So I'm gonna vote the fourth pic with the cat.
I think that all of your photos are great, particularly your first photo of the city (my vote for your POW). The first picture is mysterious because of its composition of shadows. They are extrapolated to the point where I am unable to distinguish the time of day the photo was taken. This is also not a typical Philadelphia skyline picture; it has me questioning if this photo is even of Philadelphia. If it is, this image provides a unique perspective of a skyline that is ordinary to all of us at Temple. Additionally, the construction fits the conception (form supports content). The peaceful water contrasts the bustling city on the other side, which is actively communicated through your use of luminance and the city as your horizon/subject. Your interaction with the city from across the water reveals to me that you enjoy peaceful escapes at times, which I can personally relate to as a viewer. The two-way communication you established is excellent. One way to improve this photo even more would be to align the skyline with the top edge of the frame. Edges have power and expanding on the beautiful space (the peaceful water) could make a painting out of your subject. I am just going off of our professor's suggestions for framing, and I think it would work very well with this photo.
Your fifth photo kind of threw me off guard, because it is so different from the rest. To me, the image comes off as commercial as if it would be used for a karate ad. It seems that the photo is all construction, it is merely physical. I can't interpret the conception behind it, and thus it has no emotional impact on me as a viewer.
I really like a lot of your landscape pictures, especially the first two. It is interesting how the dark silhouette of the cityscape breaks up the sky and water in the first photo. The small pieces of cloud in the sky also add a better sense of atmosphere. I love the second photo. The photo looks like it could have been taken many places around the United States. The way the water is splashing and creating a huge mist cloud is beautiful. The clouds and infrastructure add a lot of depth to the photo as well.
I really love the second photo and would vote that as my favorite. The use of light works really well here, where the water is very bright and the surrounding area is dark. I think the mist coming off the water really adds that sense of mystery as well.

All in all, great job on your pictures! :)
