I really like your photo 12,18 and 19. These pictures show warm colors. As soon as I saw these pictures, I feel like SPRING IS HERE! on photo 18, I enjoyed to see how this picture is full of pepper, my eyes are keep moving through the red peppers. I also like the contrast and shadows between them. And photo 19, It seems like this is telling me to take a break. Since the stop sign is placed on the right edge with sky background. It looks really relaxed and peaceful. I would like to vote for 19.
Kang, your photos are good. Photo 13 shows a dramatic sunset so yellow and skyblue colors look great. Also, since you placed sun in the middle, audiences can focus it. There is no distracting composition. Photo 18 displays opposite/complimentary colors, magenta and green. Before voting your POW, I have two suggestions. First, if you place photo 3 and 20 next to each other, it will be great. I think you tried to show mix of city lights, so placing them together will help. My second suggestion is about photo 6. Photo 6, you could have captured a money envelope alone. I think your laptop is unnecessary background for this picture. Lastly, I would vote for cherry-blossom photo 14 as your POW. A lot things are going on this picture besides cherry blossom trees. However, I think that make this photo not boring but interesting. Also, you captured upper parts of trees only rather than the whole tree. Again, my vote is photo 14. I really enjoyed seeing your pictures.
I think you did a great job. I like how your photos really showcase the different times of day.I like that you took pictures in the bright daylight picture 17,and 19 it made me feel warm inside and just made me happy. At the same time you also took many picture in the evening picture 20, 16,3, 4 etc. However, my favorite picture was picture 5 because it showed the sun setting on the city and was a great picture that made me really think.
I agree with K.T. I think you did a great job at portraying different moods based on the different times/ color shifts the photos were taken. You do have a few photo cliches, but I think that you processed the color so well in these photos that it doesn't even matter. For example, number 5 would look fabulous on a postcard, but i could also see this in a gallery. The photo of Philadelphia is taken from a birds eye angle that we don't get to see often, and the blue sky and the yellow lights really compliment each other. I also really like the sunset in photo 13. The orange is so rich that it literally jumps out at you and masks the rest of the photo. The edges of the photo are also a very deep black, which brings out the orange and blue even more. I am a huge fan of the "black point" feature on the iPhone 6s. If you have an iPhone you should try it if you haven't already! I vote your self-portrait (photo number 10) as your picture of the week. I think that you composed this picture perfectly with the walls on either side of you. It tightens up the space around you, making the viewer focused on you (the subject). At the same time, it opens up the space behind you and leaves the viewer questioning the specifics of your environment. You seem to be really happy that it is snowing. I feel this way during the first snow of the winter; I just want to look up at the sky and spread my arms to take it all in. There is great two-way communication here.
I love that the color red was a common element in many of your photos for this critique. Seeing as the theme of this critique was passion, what better color to capture! My choice for your POW is #11. You did a great job in taking what could have been a photo cliche and transforming it into an extremely interesting photograph. I especially loved the attention to detail and the close up angle of this shot.
I love photos 5, 10, and 12. In photo 5, the yellowed lights against the early-evening light, indigo sky create such a nice and soothing contrast. I also really like the perspective of this shot, like you are floating between skyscrapers. Photo 10 is a great self portrait, the snowy sky lit by the streetlights in the background creates a nice, muted, dark pinkish tone. Photo 12 is a really nice nature shot. the light, minimal tones of orange in the flower against the gray/blue in the background is a nice effect. I would have to vote for photo 5 as my favorite.
I liked your use of red in a lot of your photos. I find red to be an extremely drawing color and in your photos you really make it stand out. I liked photo 16 because you managed to take something that everyone sees and make it unusual. Usually we can’t stare at lights like this because they are blinding. You captured this image and allowed for detail to be shown. I find that to be extremely interesting and your picture really proves this object to be interesting. The red color is reflective through the entire photo that adds an electrifying feel to it. My favorite photo is photo 9. This singular object sticks out in the entire photo. The black backdrop works in pushing that red color forward. You’ve given this photo character. I’m not entirely sure what I’m looking at but it looks like a part of a tree. It makes me question why this wood is red. The black and red play off one another adding extra detail to the photo. I don’t think that would ever be seen with the regular eye. I would vote photo 9 as POW.
I really liked a lot of your photos in this set. Your composition and use of color worked really well. Specifically, I like number 19 because of how the stop sign contrasts with the sky. It's at a unique angle without much background which works really well here. I love 12, which would be my photo of the week for you. I love how the camera is focused on one flower while the rest are more blurred out in the background. The white and hint of yellow on top of a brown background are very pleasant to look at as well. I also really enjoy 5. I like that it's a birds eye view of the city. I also like that it looks like it's taken around dusk, so the sun is setting but not quite all the way, yet the city lights are still on.
