Recipe for Picture #6
For most of my photos I used the VSCO cam filters to make my photos black and white. For this photo however, I tried out the tonal filter to edit the photo.

ReplyDeleteHi Katie,
ReplyDeleteI like your last picture which is your self-portrait.
It seems like you are trying to tell something through your eyes.
I feel like it has emotions in this picture, that is why I liked it.
I also enjoyed to see the contrast between your hair and your face.
construction- I like how you are posing in this picture (covering your mouth with you hand)
communication- When I saw this picture, I feel like you are trying to tell something through your eyes. So it gets my attention quickly.
conception- I definitely think it is more than just a self-portrait.The way she is posing in this picture makes me think there is a concept behind this picture.
I would like to vote for the last picture which is your self-portrait.
DeleteHey Katie,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking at your photos! I think overall you worked well with focusing on smaller parts of specific objects. Each of your photos allows for the topic of a black and white mystery. My favorite out of all of them would have to be number 8. There's enough shroud of mystery to the photo that I can't fully tell what it is. I know it's a jean material but the backdrop and the white parts on the jean make me question what's going on in the photo exactly. I liked your use of contrast in that it allowed for major detail to stick out. I also enjoyed photo 15 because it reminded me of my grandmother's old house. The old, beat down stairs and surrounded by plants reminded me of growing up there and helping her clean up her yard. I liked how you placed the focus on the stairs instead of the entire porch.
I would vote number 8 as your best.

DeleteI liked the first picture because it really made me wonder what the warning label was referring to, as well as where it even was. It captured the mystery and imagination piece of this assignment well. I also liked photo 15 because it looks like an inviting place to go, almost like a cottage at the beach. My vote overall goes to number 17. I feel like it is supposed to be a happy picture but it brings a piece of sadness into it. With it not being fully focused and the heart being black, it makes the mood of the picture a lot darker. Good shots!
ReplyDeleteYou did a excellent work in detail style actually. The first image I like is the second one, the floral design on cup is vivid and so beautiful. I wondering how the look when if fill full tank of drink. The Pic 9 looks so cute. My favorite on the Pic 16. Actually I can't see the pattern on the necklace very well, but I can figure out the heart pattern and two hands hold that. I think thats meaningful. Especially the pattern on the necklace, I think the designer is remind the owner to keep your heart all the time. Be honest, be thankful. So I want vote 16.
ReplyDeleteKatie, I think that your photography is great in that it is very detailed. However, I would try to expand away from the shallow depth of field in some of your photos to include some environment. When you zoom in on ordinary objects like pencil sharpeners, it doesn't increase the mystery of the subject. Although it does make it look cool! The composition strategy is executed well in your photos, but to me it seems that many of them are merely physical and lack a balance between the three disciplines. On the other hand, I think your tonal range is excellent in all of your photos. There is a nice shift from the whitest white to the blackest black without any of your subjects appearing washed/blacked out.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite photos of yours are #15 and #19. Number 15 is mysterious and gives off a feeling of neglect. The house appears old, and there are two chairs turned sideways, but they are in front and behind each other. It makes me wonder who last sat in the chairs, were they in a fight? When was the last time someone sat in the chairs? The qualities of this photo in particular enhance its content.
I also really like your #19 self-portrait because it follows the economy of means, which really emphasizes your apprehensive facial expression. There is an element of shock in your widened eyes, and the way you cover your mouth makes me wonder what you are so surprised about. It makes me want to talk with you, and art is all about that two-way communication.
I pick #19 as your POW
DeletePhoto 15 is easily my favorite. I love the way the steps serve as a gateway to a different subject. The trees and brush are almost all-encompassing, and the stairs serve as a platform to break up nature. The porch looks almost like an oasis in the jungle. I like how the light values of the railings create a nice triangle shape in the photo
ReplyDeleteKatie, like many others has already said, I would vote for #15 as the best. Although photo #15 shows a lot of objects, the way to compose this photo lets audiences focus on the middle.
ReplyDeleteAnyway I like all of your photos because most of them focus on details we easily miss on our daily lives. Good job!

ReplyDeletePicture #15 is my favorite shot. I like the angle you used. The stairs look like they are almost inviting you in. The picture is very mysterious with the plants surrounding the stairs and porch.
