Hi everyone,
I took the most of my pictures with Iphone camera and edited through snapseed app. I really liked snapseed app alot. I used grainy film, grunge, and vintage effects from this app. I also used lens blur effect as well to change the focal points. And black/white effect is good way to create vintage mood as well.
Since the topic was vintage and memory, I tried to capture the objects and places that remind me of my old days and memories.

  1. I really like your work because many of them are full of retro elements. I think it's hard for me to choose a few favorite, so I want to pick a few specific comments on: The third picture is my first thought special, though I'm a little confused what this picture expressed. The rope link the pencil and stone together, I think the image wanna express the meaning that may be sometimes heavy thoughts will drag down your ideas. At the same time, black and white collocation is very perfect. No. 8 is another I love. In the image, the objects looks like the traditional Chinese shadow play. It is a traditional culture that has been past down for hundreds of years, the paper-cut characteristics behind yellow paper seems like vivid description. So I so appreciate your job. I'd like vote No.8 for POW.

  2. Photo 7 reminds me of when I was in elementary school and we looked at the big, old, WW2 style industrial strength clocks that would never stop running. That style of plain black clock with big round numbers will always make me think of those young school days. Picture 12 reminds me of when I was traveling own South and needed to go to mass. It was a dry, bland building with only the essentials in there, including the hymnal and book of prayers. I feel like those books could be from 1965! Picture 15 also makes me feel like I am traveling back 100 years to when Coke was first made, and served on a bar that was weathered from years of prior use. The bottle being half full and half empty is a very nice tough as well! My vote for your POW is definitely 15. Nice job!

  3. All of your photos are really well colored. Nothing really seems like you ued the original colors in the photo and I like how it works for each. Photo 2 is interesting with the addition of the hand. It gives a sense of your point of view rather than just the painting in the photo. I like photo 19 because you really worked with the vintage detail of the assignment. Instead of just being a bench, the detail in the bench and your use of color really made the photo look old. Photo 5 is by far my favorite. The space of the photo is so well framed that you added great little details to the photo. Not only is the object in the distance interesting but the fact that I can see the sun outlined and also a plane is beautifully done. This photo gave me a sense of the world in that there is so much space outside of our daily lives. I would vote photo 5 for POW.

  4. Ahyoung, I am wondering where you captured these great places and objects! Your photo 5 reminds me a fall reed. The way you composed photo 22 is really interesting. A diagonal bottom makes it more interesting and mixture of skyblue and pink colors look vintage and artistic. I like your guitar photos (9 and 10), too. Tanned colors look those photos more stunning. At last, I would like to vote photo 24 as your POW. Good job!

  5. Your use of color is very unique in each photo, and works well with the content. I like the repetitive subject in photo 23, but how there are only 2 colors involved. It's confusing, yet simplistic. The red really makes the silverware pop,, as weird as that sounds. It makes me wonder what enticed you to take the photo. I like your two self portraits because they use light differently. One is dark and has more shadows whereas the other is light and has more highlights. It really goes to show how light can adjust the mood of a picture. You extrapolate a lot of your photographs. Taking pictures close up gives the viewer such a different perspective, and the perspectives you capture are so interesting to me. I agree with Morgan that the addition of the hand in photo 2 is a nice touch. I also like how the rest of the photo is blurred. It adds mystery and is a technique I have become quite fond of. I vote photo 2 for your picture of the week!

  6. Hi! I think all of your photos give off a nostalgic feel. My favorites include 1, 6, 7 , 9, and 20.

#1 is my most favorite. The lighting and color are perfect, and there is something about books that give off a nostalgic/vintage feel. The angle in which you shot this, where it is clear closed up and blurry, gives off a sense of mystery. What were you looking for? Were you in the library or the bookstore or elsewhere? What was your purpose of being there?

#9 - What is that? Really, please respond because I really want to know. I want one(: The circular light focused in onto the figures, and then you have a darker tint of brown to create the nostalgic feel. The photo made me first look at the figures, but what was interesting was that I was curious of the background colors. You did not center the figures, which made my eyes move toward the left side, and then the clean space accentuates even more.

I am torn between #1 and #9. Great job!

    1. It was book shelve at the church on sunday. And #9 is a guitar! it was just closed up shot!
However, I think you meant to mention about photo 8. It was just small standing figures that I bought it from Korea. I used snap seed to edit the colors (added vintage, grainy effects)

  7. I really love the way you toned your photos for this critique. Many of them were dark and mysterious which definitely made for an interesting take on vintage/memory. My favorite photo and choice for your POW is definitely #5. I found my self looking at this one for a long time just trying to figure out exactly what the structure was. The way you captured the light in the bottom third of the photo was fantastic and was one of the reasons I liked the shot so much.

  8. I like how you edit your photos. The graininess gives a nice older look to them. I also like your use of color too! I liked Photo 9 a lot because of the closeness to the strings on the guitar and everything else out of focus. Photo 5 really caught my eye because I'm still not exactly sure what I'm looking at. I LOVE how the sun is in the background but you have to look for it. The lighting is perfect in this. I would vote for 5 as your photo of the week.

  9. I really like photos 16 and 17. In photo 16, the pier is nicely lit by the sun, and the filter you used really enhances the value and colors within the photo. Photo 17 is simple, in a nice way, displaying the beautiful texture in a bouquet of flowers. The colors in this photo are also really interesting. I would like to vote for 6 as my favorite. The composition is really beautiful. The plane, the moon, the mountains, and the structure all fit harmoniously together. I also think that the fact that the photo is black and white really enhances the composition.
