Recipe for #7
For this photo I used the VSCO cam app for toning. Originally, you could not see the shadows of the branches in the photo. By using the B5/BW Moody filter at +12 and adjusting the contast, I was able to pick up the shadow to create more depth in the photo.
I think pictures 1, 2, 3, and 10 have a very warm feeling to them. I feel like I am at an Ivy league school for the spring semester, and it just makes me feel like I should be enjoying the northeast in the crisp spring air. Pictures 6, 20, and 13 are also very nice as well- you captured the vintage feeling very well with the old cars, rusted box with the cheap prices, and the outdated tags for the cars. Overall, my favorite picture is 18. It has a certain feel of the 70's with the bright colors but empty claw game, and the laundromat is desolate, which adds to the eerie lost in time feeling. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the use of color in photos 1 and 2. I think emphasizing on the warmer tones of the photo added to the vintage feel of the photos. I think you framed each of these really well to create an interesting space. Photo 8 is really eye catching because of the contrast of the white and black of the photo. The area is obviously worn down and I think it creates an interesting photo to look at. You also managed to make a really mysterious photo with framing this. I like photo 21 because it’s lit in a way that makes the colors in the photos work well. Your eye hidden behind your hair is extremely interesting and works well with how you framed the photo. The photo works well in making mystery and vintage together. Out of all your photos I would say 19 is my favorite. I like how you chose to highlight the blue chair among all the basic colors in the photo. The space around the chair is interesting because everything looks worn down. It makes the chair stick out more but also adds a story to the place of where this chair is. I would vote photo 19 for POW.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your photo number 1, it has amazing color quality. Another my favorite is photo number 7. I love the shadow and branches. It makes me to gaze this picture at least a minute. I was trying to figure out what is going on in this picture. I also liked the contrast in photo 7. And your self-portrait 21 is really great too. It seems like your eye is telling us something. I liked the white lighting part around your left face as well. It brings a good contrast. I would like to vote for 21.
ReplyDeleteKatie, your old and vintage findings are really great! Since you captured the right objects, they naturally enhanced vintage mood for all photos. You captured photo 17 behind the foggy or dirty window and it added mysterious feelings. I cannot exactly identify which objects are placed. I am surprised that you look totally different in two self-portrait photos. Did a great job! Each photo looks totally different. Photo 21 displays your outgoing and bright personality while photo 22 shows gloomy, calm, and dark mood. I would like to vote photo 22 as your POW.
ReplyDeleteI really like the image 1 and 10, the image one looks so amazing because of the filter you used in. A medieval European castle feeling restoring ancient ways. The black and white effect in No. 10 was very appropriate. It easy to make people image that it's not just a normal wooden chair or station. Image for 13-20 are full of memories of the old items, these things are reminded of our memories, I like them all, and these things looks like hard to found right now, so where did you found them? I'd like to vote No. 1 as POW.
ReplyDeleteI also use VSCO for a lot of my photos, and love the filter Moody! You do a great job working with all different forms of processing, whether it be in black and white, color, or faded/vintage. I think your processing goes very well with what you are trying to convey through the photo, at least the way I look at them. You have an extrapolated angle of view in many of your photos, which would make a great set in your portfolio. I also really admire your framing techniques because they are visually engaging and have me looking at multiple aspects of the photo. Your combination of different strategies here shows that you are a well-rounded photographer who can craft your photos strategically based on what you wish to resonate with your viewers. My favorite photo is number 4, and even though it is in black and white it still has that aspect of "memory" to it, and also mystery. It appears as if there is a huge black mess that someone is rushing and struggling to clean up. That is pretty much my life in a nutshell... I vote photo 4 for your POW.
ReplyDeleteThe negative/positive space in photo 4 is interesting. It is clear what the content of the photo is, but the contrast creates a nice path for the eyes. The symmetry in photo 2 is nice. The two grand trees balance out either side of the bridge, creating a composition that appears as if it could fold in half. I vote for photo 17. The fog (or dirty window?) creates an interesting space and increases my curiosity as to what is behind it.
ReplyDeleteHi! One thing that you do well that I admire so so much is your ability to make sense out of nothingness. You make great use of empty space in your photos and have a way of captivating the viewer. You did such an excellent job of this in photos 8, 14, and 16.
ReplyDeletePhotos 3, 7, 8, 14, and 16 are my favorites!
Photo 3 – Where does this path lead? You create movement as you captivate the viewer’s eye down the road. It made me picture a scenario where person A says to person B, “Here, go my hand and let’s walk down this path together.” The photo gives off a feeling of remembrance, embracing the vintage topic.
Photo 7 – The use of lighting to capture the reflection and at the right time is superb!
For the purpose of the topic, photo 3 as your POW.

I like your use of space. Number 9 is really interesting to look at and I love the use of color here. I like how it focuses on one object but there are clearly other things to look at in the background. I would choose this as your photo of the week.
