Hello! This time I used the apple/iphone photo app and fx to edit my photos. I also tried to work on framing and composition this time. There were many and many attempts and more failures than successes. I shoot pointing down and pointing up a lot. I also tried to incorporate perspective as a frame the photos -- I actually play around with perspective alot and you can see that in photos 2, 6, 7, 13. Please let me know what you think!

I like photos 6, 7, 13, and 17 a lot. The photos have long lines that give the picture a lot of depth-it isn't just a photo that you look at, but something that you look into. I also like 9, 18, and 20 because it focuses on the foreground and hazes the background. It gives the pictures that you took a lot more mystery, which I think allows and forces the mind to wander at the same time. Overall for my picture of the week choice, I pick picture 6. It shows that people build up a lot of things over time (the rusted bridge), but they often neglect to take care of them because there are newer, fancier toys to play with (the new cars in the background). Nice pictures overall!
ReplyDeleteI really like the framing and coloring of photo 2. You really worked well with the idea of vintage in this photo. There’s so much detail happening in this photo. I like how my eyes are trained to follow the train tracks down to reveal the buildings and bridge. I also really enjoy photo 4. The barrels are older looking based on the weathering of their color and material. What interesting about this photo is the red solo cup in the middle. It gives an extra burst of color to the photo. It also interesting in that I think it brings a bit of youthfulness to the photo. With the topic being vintage and memory I think the cup works perfectly in contrasting that. I think my favorite photo of yours this week is photo 19. I enjoy how focused it is on the branches and how blurred the background is. There isn’t a lot of color to the photo, which helps add a sense of mystery to the photo. I really like how the background is completely out of focus compared to everything else. I would vote photo 19 for POW.
ReplyDeleteI like the quality of your colors. It not black and white but its still give you a vintage feeling through the colors that you edited. And I also enjoyed to see how you captured the objects in different angle such as 12,18,and19. I believe an angle is really important element. And an angle makes picture really interesting. I also love your self-portrait. it seems like it has a story behind it. I would like to vote for 19.
ReplyDeleteI really like your work, especially for image 2 and 5. I think the two are best match the theme of vintage=memory. Also you use filter as well. I really like the filter you use in image 2, 5, 7, 14 and 16. It give us a feeling of restoring ancient ways, at the same time gives us the imagination. My personal favorite is the No. 2 and 16. In the second one, parallel tracks and scattered stones form the recall feeling, just like watching old movies. Collocate dark yellow filter can embody its lasting appeal. I like the visual perception of crisscross between sunset and night in the 16. To be honest I would enjoy that kind of atmosphere. So I'd like vote the 16 as POW.
ReplyDeleteVancesca, I have to admit I like all of your photos. For #18, rather than a person or buildings, you focused on the wall which made it interesting near and far photo. For #17, hanging art works added colorful touch to this picture and a faded-yellowish-brown color strengthened its calm mood. I am wondering when you took #14. Timing of this picture is really perfect. I am guessing you took it at sunset or at dawn. An abandoned bicycle at photo 5 looks funny, and a diagonal ground is interesting, too. To sum up, I would like to vote 18 as your POW.
ReplyDeleteI think you worked really well with geometrical shapes, specifically in your use of lines. I really like photo 2 because you cannot tell where the lines (railroad track) are ending, which adds mystery to the photo and makes me want to look beyond what is initially visible. I liked photo four because again, I think you used geometrical shapes very well. It is just two barrels but I like how you lined them up with the edges of the frame, and the red cup and random trash laying in between them raises some questions for me. I also like the blurred overlay you used on photo 18. It is similar to a filter I used on one of my photos (me and my friend in front of a sunset) you should check it out! Do you use piclay? I agree with you about your advanced perspective as well. Particularly 2, 5, 6, and 12. I think you utilized color very well here, in reference to vintage. You made sure that some aspects of the color were not taken away by your processing. Great work!
ReplyDeleteI am torn between photos 2 and 5. They are both great so go with which one you think works best for POW!
DeleteThere is a lot of depth in your photos. There seems to be a theme of grand space. I love photos 9 and 17. Both of these pictures utilize a near/dar perspective, creating mystery and a journey for the eye. The color treatment in photo two is very reminiscent of old photographs, but still has a modern, crisp look to it. Overall, I really liked the general color treatment of your photos. Everything appears desaturated and not modern. I would have to vote for 9 as my favorite because of the mystery. The structure behind the art museum looks like it could be a faraway castle, especially if the viewer is not familiar with Philadelphia.
ReplyDeleteI really like that you tried to incorporate your own perspective into your photos more and I think you did a nice job with it! I like 4 because the red cup is out of place. It's a very bright color among very neutral colors surrounding it. I also like 6 a lot. I like that even though the car is not the closest thing to you, it is most in focus. I think the blur and colors work well here. I would choose 6 as your photo of the week.
