  1. Ahyoung, some of Relaxed food photos make me hungry. I really like your Ordinary collection, chapter 2. Especially the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth are great! As Prof. Berkowitz mentioned, moon and the airplane adds humor to the seventh Ordinary photo. I think you intentionally title these photos "ordinary" because all of these look so extraordinary! I have no clue what you captured for the fifth photo. SO mysterious. Circle and square figures remind me a mystery circle. Lastly, I would like to vote your seventh Ordinary photo as your POY (picture of year)! That photo looks so professional. Thank you for posting your great photos with me and other classmates.

  2. Ahyoung -
I like your use of fading throughout your photos. It gives it a very vintage feel. Your second photo is awesome! I love the colors. It adds mystery to me - someone who does not speak or read the language printed on the paper. I wonder what the significance is, if any at all of the words. The focus and colors work really well here too. I want to vote for the second photo in chapter four as your best. I love the use of light here because it looks like the lights are floating. I also think this picture looks great in black and white and that color would have taken away from the subject. Great job this semester!

  3. Ahyoung, your portfolio is awesome. There is an element of simplicity throughout all of your photos, but you are able to maintain a sense of mystery and attach a so-called "story" to each and every one of them. The obstructed views in many of your photos make me curious as a viewer, and like Hong said- your food photos make me very hungry! For your POY, I am voting for your second-to-last photo under the chapter "Memory." Here I feel as though I am taken back in time to an old farm. My view is obstructed by the signs, which compels me to look even closer in the photo for more clues. This photo is mysterious but it is also serene and evokes that sense of "memory" that you clearly intended to establish. Great work!

  4. Your photos have a great attention to detail. Each is edited in a great way to define everything that's going on in the photo. Your portfolio reflects this detail and shows off your skills as a photographer. You've got a great range of focus and framing that works well in each picture. The chapter Ordinary is my favorite because it seems to be taking every day things and make them interesting. Out of all your photos this semester my favorite has been #7 of the Ordinary chapter. There are so many small things in this photo that work together to create a stunning image. It's subtle but powerful at the same time. Keep up the good work!!

  5. Hi! I enjoyed your collections, especially the last, Closed-Up. In this chapter, the second photo with the light bulbs/lamps and the last are my favorites. You framed them well, and captured exactly what is needed. The tonality of the b/w photos is superb. Great work! As for your POW, I vote for the second photo from the last chapter.

  6. Ahyoung,
I love the way you divided your chapters up. Each section is very reflective of the title and they all flow together nicely. My favorite chapter would have to be "Ordinary." I think these are definitely your best photos in the portfolio and I especially love the composition of photos 6 and 7 in the chapter. My choice for your Picture of the Year would have to be number 6 in the ordinary chapter. I found myself wanting to know what was behind the window which definitely captured the mystery element of the assignment. Great job this semester!

  7. Ahyoung, I love the variety in your photos. Your seem to focus on a different subject for each piece, creating nice flow and diversity in your portfolio. I really like photo 2 in Closed-Up. The photo has a very strong graphic aspect to it, the use of positive and negative space is beautiful. 1 and 7 in Ordinary are anything but ordinary! Photo 1 is a really interesting use of value, the flowers look electric next to the gray concrete wall and black ivy. I would have to vote for 7 as my favorite, as I believe I have also done in the past. This is one of my favorite photos of the semester. The structure reminds me of dragonfly wings and the moon and plane frame the rest of the photo very nicely, along with the distant mountains.
