Katie, I like all of your photos, but like your Forgotten and Perspective collections the most. The chapter 3, Forgotten, showcases vintage and old objects with gloomy or sad feelings. Because they are not stunning color, the second Forgotten photo itself tone-downed yellow and blue is really great things to express sad feelings. The way you adjusted colors is smart. If they were bright neon colors, they would never looked like gloomy. The first photo from Perspective collection looks mysterious because you captured that moment behind window. It added an interesting layer to the photo. The second Perspective photo looks really great because the shape of lights looks extraordinary. I would like to vote the second Forgotten photo as your POY (picture of year)! Katie, all of your photos are amazing.
Katie - I really like the vintage feel that I get from a lot of your photos. I begin to wonder where they were shot which I think is a great element to have in your photos. I am curious about your photos. I would vote your photo of the year as the 4th photo in chapter 2. I remember this photo from one of the previous weeks and I really liked it then, too! I think it just captures everything that we learned this semester. There is a great sense of mystery here and the photo makes me want to explore the location myself. Great job this semester!
Katie, i agree with Christie- your photos definitely have a consistent vintage feel that makes them visually appealing. I admire your photography style. You seem to work especially well with empty spaces. While many of your photos are simple, not one of them is boring. There is a sense of mystery behind each and every one of them that really engages me as a viewer and leaves me wondering what was on your mind when you took the photo. In addition, you utilize colors nicely, and have an interesting extrapolated perspective (especially in your self-portraits). This is a great portfolio, and the chapters are also broken up and organized nicely! I am voting for the 5th picture under the chapter "perspective" as your picture of the year. There are distressing qualities to the photo that give me a strong feeling of anxiety, but also leave me wondering the story behind it. Why is there such a mess? Is there a larger message behind why you took this photo? The emotional elements of this piece really work to enhance your communication with your viewers. Great work this semester!
I've liked how you kept a sense of mystery through out each of your photos and through the entirety of your portfolio. Each photo has me pausing and questioning what the image's origin is. You also did a great job with your self portraits this semester. Each of them allowed for a mystery of where you were and the angles used. My favorite of your chapters is Ablaze probably because of your use of color in your photos. Each of the colors are subtle but very clean. I would vote for photo 4 of that chapter as your photo of the year because I love how you framed that photo. You allowed for different shapes, colors, and depth to play off one another. Overall cool work this semester!
I really enjoyed your final portfolio! I think you have really clear color quality in your photos. Also, you also created vintage feeling at the same time especially chapter 5. The chapter 5 shows what I just mentioned about your photos. First two pictures in chapter 5 are my favorite. It looks mysterious to me! And I was staring at these pictures for a while to figure out what they are. I would vote for your chapter 5! good job!:)
Katie, I agree with Christie and Lauren that your photos have a vintage feel to them. Photos like 3 and 4 in the final chapter illustrate this idea well. The framing of the carousel in photo 3 is really nice and unusual, and has a carnival-esque sort of feel to it. The same goes for photo 4 in the last chapter, which I would like to vote for as my favorite. The image creates a clear message while also have a strong graphic design and color palette.
I loved you chapter perspective. I think it was mysterious and different and I think you did a nice job. I would like to vote for the 4th picture in perspective for your pow. It really gave off a nature feel but equally mysterious. Great job!
