Becca, your works are great! All photos from the Before Night chapter is all about timing and color. The second, fourth, and fifth photos which are from your color/passion assignment still look beautiful and great. The mixture of sky-blue and pink sky is absolutely beautiful. I think you spent time on waiting to capture the perfect mixture! The sixth one is also very beautiful. The city line is pure black so it does not distract an overall atmosphere. I assume you adjusted brightness to make the city line pure black. Great job! The Looking Glass chapter is the one which I want to highlight especially. I would like to vote your self-portrait photo from this chapter as your POY. Four reflected images of yours look really mysterious. Each reflected image showcases a different angle of you, front, side, etc. Also, the low angle and a space behind your faces make this photo perfect. No distracting objects exist. The white bottom cuts out the body below your neck, so audiences including me can easily focus on the main theme. Again, I am voting your second Looking Glass photo as your POY!
Becca - I love the vintage feel that I get from your photos. You definitely seem to have a certain style of shooting that shows in your portfolio. I also like that you have a lot of shots of o9ld buildings. I'm curious as to the location of these shots. My favorite overall photo is the very last one. I like the editing here a lot. I think it adds a lot of mystery and I have a lot of questions about the building and story behind it. It's sort of creepy and mysterious. Great job this semester!
Becca, I agree with Christie. Even with our topics frequently changing, you were able to establish a unique "vintage" style. This portfolio is so wonderful and well organized. I envy your ability to capture a variety of subjects and maintain your style through processing! You are a true artist. The physical form of your photos makes me think you are a directed shooter. You work really well with negative space and seem to use it as a method of manipulating time. I also love how you use geometric shapes, such as lines in the chapter "pathways" to submerge your viewers in the photo. Many of these, especially photo 4 in this chapter, give me the urge to jump into the photo and find out where the pattern ends! Like I already said, you also do a fantastic job at processing your photos. I think your style is my favorite in the class. Your editing is not overdone, nor is it underdone, and creates a mood that is fitting for the specific photo. It is very hard for me to choose a photo of the year for you because you have so many great pieces, but i'm going to have to choose the second-to-last photo in your portfolio. I voted it for the last POW and i am still intrigued by it. Professor Berkowitz commented on your tonality in this picture in his last teaching tips post, and I have to agree with him. Just like your other photos, the processing here fits the physical elements and creates a dream-like setting. I said in the last critique that it reminds me of the fallen house in the Wizard of Oz. I think it would be interesting to go back to this spot and maybe even lay some shoes by the house to appear like the movie's Wicked Witch of the East. Just a thought! Great job this semester!
Your portfolio really showcases the different assignments we had through the semester. It allows for a lot of variety to your photos which makes the portfolio interesting and engaging. Your shots are a good mixture of close ups and landscapes that play off one another. The chapter Before Night is a gorgeous collection of shots that show a variety of areas. Each photo is really worth stopping and looking at. My favorite photo, though, is in the chapter Nostalgia, and that would be your last photo. I voted it POW for the last assignment and I would say it's your photo of the year. It's very detailed and the editing work you did to it makes it stand out among the others. It makes me want to go to this specific spot and compare your photo with the reality. Amazing work!!
Hi Rebecca! Great work this semester! You added just the right amount of edits, captured moments at the right time, and framed your photos perfectly. I especially love the fourth chapter, nostalgia. The photos evoke feelings of nostalgia for me, although I cannot directly relate. It seems like all of the photos in the nostalgia chapter have some sort of story behind them. If I could, I'd vote all of the photos in the fourth chapter as POW, but if I have to choose one, it'll be photo 5 in this collection.
Hi Rebecca, NICE PORTFOLIO! your photos have vintage quality. I think you did good job on controlling colors and compositions. I especially liked your chapter 4 because they are seemed like very mysterious to me. the houses look old, they are almost collapsed. And also black and white effect brings mysterious mood forward. I would vote for this chapter!
