  1. Hong -
I really like your use of color in your photos. I think the bright colors that you use work really well for your shots. Two of my favorites are number 23 and number 13. 23 struck me because you only see the hat of a person and not their face and the flowers in the background. I like the angles you used here and I think there is some mystery. I would vote 13 as your overall best. I LOVE the contrast in colors and the focus on the petals. The soft pink petals against the harsh blacktop work really well. Great job this semester!

  2. Hong, your portfolio is great! You are able to use light and reflections in unordinary ways to create a unique composition throughout many of your photos. I am sometimes unable to make out what exactly the subject even is, but that makes me stare at it longer and become more curious. The simplicity you establish increases a sense of mystery, thereby increasing the likelihood that your viewers will resonate with your photos. Your self-portraits are interesting because they all share a similar obstructed view. It produces a dialogue with your viewers that would probably be unlikely without this view. My favorite photo, and my vote for your POY is photo number 9- which I also voted for in our first critique. The close-up perspective and use of reflection is visually engaging. It gives "hints" rather than "facts" and is a rather gentle photo, might I add. It is almost like you are turning the page of a dark book, but you are apprehensive. There are many ways this photo could be interpreted, which really establishes the photographer-viewer communication that we are all aiming for in this course. Great work this semester!

  3. You have a great eye for color and it shows through your entire portfolio! The color in your photos is very vibrant and clear allowing for an attention to detail. It's almost as if the color is what's being showcased instead of the subjects of your photos. The color plays a character in each picture which helps shape your portfolio well. My favorite chapter is Pisces Girl because there is so much diversity in terms of color. Everything is eye catching and edited well to stand out. My favorite photo of yours and the one I would vote for photo of the year would have to be #5. There is so much clarity and vibrance in this photo. I've found myself stopping at this photo each time I scrolled through your pictures. The photo is interesting in its setting but also in the detail. Great work this semester!

  4. Hi! The first 3 photos in your last collection really completes your final portfolio! Overall, love your work! The most appealing chapters for me is 1) Chapter 2, Reflected Hands and 2) Chapter 5, Near and Far. As for the Reflected Hands chapter, I think there is something about the tone of the filters you use as well as the image of hands, together creates art. The photos in this collection are creatively and artistically shot. As for the Near and Far collection, you decided to take a closer look at the objects you're shooting while utilizing varied angles to capture interesting surfaces, therefore drawing in the viewer. I love photo 21, and think that should be your POW. Great job this semester(:

  6. Woojae, I really like your use of color in your portfolio. It has a vibrant, playful feel to it, specifically in chapter 1. Photos 2 and 5 are great in this aspect. The feathery pink in photo 2 reminds me of applying blush or girly makeup. Photo 5 has an electric aquatic vibe to it. Both photos have a high element of mystery because we cannot see the character. I would have to vote for photo 12 as my favorite. For one, I think the colors are really interesting and beautiful. Another reason is that I have no idea what the photo is of, but it is very comforting.
